Patna: The political landscape of Mokama remains volatile following the murder of Jan Suraaj supporter Dularchand Yadav, as powerful JD(U) candidate and former MLA Anant Singh has been named as a prime accused. An FIR filed by the victim’s family alleges that Singh personally opened fire on Dularchand, who was later beaten and crushed under a vehicle, leading to his death.
Based on the statement of Dularchand’s grandson, Neeraj Kumar, police have registered a case against Anant Singh, his nephews Rajveer and Karamveer Singh, and associates Chhotan and Kanjay Singh. The attack, which took place in the Tal area of Mokama, has sparked political outrage and prompted opposition parties to question the state government’s handling of law and order.
Meanwhile, Anant Singh’s extensive criminal record has come under renewed scrutiny. During his election nomination, Singh declared 28 serious cases in his affidavit — including charges of kidnapping, illegal possession of arms, harboring criminals, and attempt to murder.
In a twist, one of Singh’s supporters, Jitendra Kumar, has filed a counter-case naming Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi and four others as accused in the same incident.
A three-member medical board has now completed Dularchand Yadav’s postmortem. Dr Ajay Kumar Singh, a member of the board, confirmed that the deceased sustained a gunshot wound near his ankle joint, which was non-fatal. The report also recorded multiple abrasions and incised wounds on the body.
Police have received the postmortem report and are investigating both FIRs. Heavy security remains deployed in the area as tensions persist.
