Araria: Fourteen people were injured, three critically, in an acid attack in Matyari Ward No. 1, under the RS police station area of Araria district, police said. The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over drug use.
According to local authorities, a group of young men, including the son of Surendra Sah, were allegedly consuming smack at the home of Ranjit Yadav. When Ranjit intervened and advised them to stop, the men left but later caused damage to Ranjit’s nephew’s bicycle, prompting villagers to gather outside.
At that point, the group allegedly threw acid on those assembled, injuring more than a dozen people. Locals rushed the victims to hospital, where all remain under treatment, with three in critical condition.
Police said they responded promptly, with Sadar SDPO Sushil Kumar, Town SHO Manish Kumar, and RS SHO leading a large force to the scene. Six people have been taken into custody and are being questioned. The incident reportedly occurred late at night, and the area has been converted into a temporary police camp.
Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack, which has raised concern over escalating local violence related to drug use.
