Aurangabad/Patna: Bihar Police have arrested four men accused of involvement in an inter-district illegal arms trafficking network during a joint operation by the Special Operations Group (SOG) and local police.
Officials said the arrests were made following intelligence inputs about illegal weapon supplies across multiple districts, including Aurangabad, Rohtas, Kaimur and Bhojpur.
Police said the operation could lead to further disclosures about a wider trafficking network.
Arrests made after intelligence input
According to police, the Special Task Force (STF) received information that illegal arms were being supplied to different districts in the state.
Acting on the tip-off, a special operation was carried out on Friday with support from Goh police station in Aurangabad district.
The suspects were intercepted near Dehuri Bazaar on the Goh-Rafiganj main road while travelling on three motorcycles.
Weapons and ammunition seized
Police said the four men were found carrying a cache of firearms and ammunition.
The seizure included three loaded pistols, two country-made carbines, two country-made handguns, one damaged firearm, 159 live cartridges, seven magazines, three motorcycles, four mobile phones and two spent shells.
Officials said the recovered weapons are being examined as part of the investigation.
Suspects identified
The arrested men have been identified as Rohit Kumar alias Billu Singh alias Bilta, a resident of Jhadi village under Uphara police station; Ganesh Kumar alias Vikram of Tankuppi village under Haspura police station; and Mohammad Sohel alias Ballister Alam alias Bali, along with Ishtekhar Alam, both from Pranpur village under Goh police station.
Police said preliminary questioning indicated their involvement in illegal arms supply.
Further raids underway
Following interrogation, police carried out a raid in Pranpur village, where additional weapons and ammunition were allegedly recovered.
STF DIG Sanjay Kumar Singh said the accused had been handed over to Goh police station, where an FIR has been registered and further investigation is under way.
Police are now examining the source of the seized weapons, intended buyers and any previous criminal links of the accused.
