Bagaha: The fear of tiger attacks has deepened in Bagaha after another incident in which a 35-year-old farmer was mauled on Saturday. The man, identified as Jitan Mahato of Dumri village, was cycling to his fields when a tiger ambushed him from the nearby forest.
Mahato suffered a deep wound to his stomach and was rushed by villagers to Ramnagar primary health centre. Doctors later referred him to Bettiah GMCH, where his condition was described as critical and requiring advanced care.
Despite repeated assurances of intensified patrols and trap cameras, residents say the forest department has failed to prevent recurring attacks. “The animal inflicted a severe stomach injury. The youth is in dire need of higher-level treatment,” said medical officer DS Arya.
The Ramnagar region has witnessed a series of attacks in recent months, with several lives lost. While one tiger was captured earlier, locals fear at least one more remains active in the area.
Villagers, gripped by fear and anger, accuse officials of responding with “statements and formalities” rather than concrete action. They have urged the government and the forest department to act decisively to restore safety.
