Ara/Patna: Chaos erupted in Pironta village of Bhojpur district on Wednesday when the campaign convoy of Jan Suraaj Party candidate Dr. Vijay Gupta was allegedly targeted by a drunk man. A Scorpio vehicle in the convoy suffered damage to its front windshield from bricks and stones.
The incident occurred in the run-up to the Bihar Assembly elections, specifically under the Mufussil police station area in Bhojpur. Dr. Vijay Gupta was traveling with his supporters and party workers when the convoy reached Pironta village.
According to reports, an individual, described as being in an intoxicated state, suddenly began pelting bricks and stones at the procession. The attacker reportedly claimed allegiance to a rival political party before damaging the front windshield of one of the vehicles. Dr. Gupta, who was traveling in a separate car, was unharmed, though the assault created an atmosphere of fear among his supporters.
The incident was reportedly captured on video and is circulating on social media, showing the accused using abusive language. However, the authenticity of the viral footage remains unverified by this publication.
Candidate Alleges Political Conspiracy
The Jan Suraaj Party candidate, Dr. Vijay Gupta, responded to the attack by strongly condemning the act and framing it as a targeted political attempt to disrupt his campaign.
“This is not a random act; this is a premeditated conspiracy aimed at intimidating our workers and derailing our campaign,” Dr. Gupta stated. “An attack on our workers and vehicles is an attack against the spirit of democracy itself.”
The party leadership views the incident as a serious escalation of campaign tensions during the election season.
Police Launch Investigation
Upon receiving information about the stone-pelting, police from the Mufussil police station immediately arrived at the scene to assess the situation and initiate an investigation.
Authorities have confirmed the damage to the vehicle and stated that the primary task is identifying and apprehending the attacker. Police officials have promised that the accused, who was reportedly intoxicated, will be identified and appropriate legal action will be taken.
