Bhojpur: A viral video showing a young man firing a pistol and revellers dancing with a firearm at a wedding reception in Bihar’s Bhojpur district has triggered swift police action and renewed debate about public safety at social events. The footage, widely shared on social media, shows celebratory firing and the casual handling of a weapon on the dance floor.
Local police confirmed that one person has been arrested in connection with the incident, while efforts are under way to identify and detain others seen in the videos. The weapon used in the firing has not yet been recovered, but officers said raids are continuing to trace those involved.
According to police, the arrest of 19-year-old Deepanshu Kumar, also known as Chhotu, a resident of Bind Toli, followed an investigation launched after the footage went viral. An FIR was registered on the statement of an assistant sub-inspector, and during questioning, the accused admitted that the firing was carried out with a country-made pistol belonging to one of his associates.
In one clip, a young man is seen firing shots as music plays in the background, while another video shows a woman dancing with a pistol handed to her by another guest. Police described the scenes as dangerous and irresponsible, noting that such acts can easily result in serious injuries or fatalities.
Bhojpur’s superintendent of police, Raj, issued a stern warning, saying that brandishing weapons and firing shots at public gatherings would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He said all individuals visible in the footage had been identified and would be brought to justice.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the growing trend of displaying firearms during weddings and celebrations in parts of Bihar. Authorities said a special operation is continuing to recover the weapon and prevent similar incidents, stressing that strict legal action would be taken against anyone violating firearm laws.
