Araria: In a dramatic turn of events ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, BJP leader and state executive member Pandit Ajay Jha staged an unusual protest after being denied a party ticket. Visibly distraught, Jha draped himself in a kafan (burial shroud) and declared that the “party should take his sacrifice,” drawing widespread attention across the political landscape of Bihar.
The protest comes amid rising discontent within both the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Grand Alliance, as candidate lists trigger controversy and infighting. From seat-sharing disputes in the Mahagathbandhan to rebellion within the BJP camp, Bihar’s election season has turned increasingly turbulent.
“Party Betrayed My Husband,” Says Sanju Jha
Holding a press conference in Araria, Ajay Jha’s wife Sanju Jha accused the BJP of sidelining loyal workers. “We gave everything — our time, our resources, our dedication — but got nothing in return,” she said, questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’.
She further alleged that caste equations influenced ticket distribution: “Leaders said Narpatganj is a Yadav seat and Forbesganj a Baniya seat — then where should the Brahmins go?”
Sanju claimed that senior party figures had earlier promised her husband a ticket but backtracked under pressure. She announced that she will now contest independently from Narpatganj, saying, “This is my home, my sasural, and I will fight from here to uphold my husband’s honour.”
Ajay Jha’s Emotional Outburst: “Party Can Take My Sacrifice”
Speaking to the media, Ajay Jha broke down in tears. “I have nothing left to lose. I only wanted one chance to serve people and show what true representation means,” he said. “If this is what the party leadership wants, let them take my sacrifice. I am ready.”
He added that his entire family is under stress following the decision and that he never expected such treatment after years of service to the BJP.
