Patna: The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has introduced a dedicated mobile application to monitor the conduct of the Matriculation and Intermediate annual examinations, marking a shift towards technology-led supervision of one of the state’s largest academic exercises.
The use of the app has been made mandatory at all examination centres for both exams. Personnel assigned to operate the system have already been trained and will be responsible for sending daily reports directly to the board through the application.
According to officials, the app will be used to submit real-time data on student absenteeism, expulsions, overall examination atmosphere, use of unauthorised materials and discrepancies in photographs on admit cards. The reports will cover the entire duration of each examination day, from commencement to conclusion.
The application will be installed on the mobile phones of designated staff at each centre. For the Matriculation examination, 1,699 centres have been set up across Bihar, while 1,762 centres have been established for the Intermediate examination. In one district alone, 70 centres will conduct the Matric exams and 84 the Intermediate exams.
The Intermediate examinations are scheduled to be held from February 2 to February 13, while the Matriculation examinations will take place from February 17 to February 25. A total of 13,17,846 candidates are registered for the Intermediate exams and 15,12,963 for the Matriculation exams statewide.
To strengthen oversight, flying squad officers appointed to prevent malpractice will leave for their respective districts on January 31 and remain stationed at district headquarters until the examinations conclude. Lecturers from various District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) have been deployed in this role.
Guidelines for the implementation of the app and overall examination monitoring were issued by BSEB chairperson Anand Kishore at a review meeting held on January 22 at the education department auditorium, chaired by the additional chief secretary.
Officials said the initiative was aimed at improving transparency, accountability and discipline during the examinations, which involve more than 28 lakh students across Bihar each year.
