Patna: The Bihar government has officially announced the distribution of portfolios among its ministers, outlining how responsibilities will be shared in the new cabinet. The notification comes after the state cabinet approved the creation of three new departments earlier this month. With ministers now assigned to both old and new departments, the government aims to speed up decision-making and strengthen implementation of its development plans.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar has retained several key departments that deal with the core functioning of the government. These include general administration, cabinet secretariat, vigilance and elections. In addition to these responsibilities, he has been given charge of the newly formed civil aviation department. This shows that the government wants to give special importance to improving air services in Bihar, which are seen as essential for economic growth, tourism and better connectivity with other parts of the country.
The education sector has been entrusted to minister Sunil Kumar, who will head the education department along with science, technology and technical education. He has also been given responsibility for the newly created higher education department. By placing school education, colleges, universities and technical institutes under one leadership, the government hopes to bring better coordination and improve the overall quality of education. This move is also expected to help students gain skills that match the needs of the job market.
To address employment and skill development, Sanjay Singh Tiger has been given charge of the labour resources department as well as the newly formed youth, employment and skill development department. This department is expected to focus on training programmes, job opportunities and support for self-employment among young people. Meanwhile, Arun Shankar Prasad will lead the tourism and art and culture department, and Surendra Mehta has been assigned dairy, fisheries and animal resources, sectors that play a major role in strengthening the rural economy and increasing farmers’ income.
The creation of the civil aviation, higher education and youth, employment and skill development departments was approved in the cabinet meeting held on December 9. After that, secretaries were appointed to these departments. With the latest allocation of portfolios to ministers, these new departments are now fully set to begin work, marking an important step in the Bihar government’s administrative and development efforts.
