Patna: The Bihar Transport Department has launched a citizen-led road safety initiative that allows people to report traffic violations by sending photos and videos through WhatsApp and email.

Under the initiative, residents can share evidence of violations such as overspeeding, riding without helmets, failure to wear seatbelts, triple riding, wrong-side driving, mobile phone use while driving, and rash driving.

The department has issued a dedicated WhatsApp number — 9153971897 — and an email address, commandcontrolecenterbihar@gmail.com, for receiving complaints from the public.

Public Participation In Enforcement

According to the Transport Department, the move aims to improve compliance with traffic regulations and strengthen road safety enforcement through public participation.

Officials said complaints received through the platform would be examined and verified before legal action is initiated against the vehicle owner or driver under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The department stated that vehicle registration numbers and other relevant details visible in submitted photos or videos would be used during verification.

Transport Secretary Appeals For Citizen Support

Transport Secretary Raj Kumar said public cooperation was essential in reducing road accidents and improving adherence to traffic rules across the state.

He said ordinary citizens could now contribute directly to road safety enforcement by acting as “road safety sentinels” and reporting violations to the department.

Raj Kumar added that the identity of complainants would remain confidential and assured that all complaints would be processed in accordance with the law.

Focus On Road Safety

The Transport Department said road safety remained a shared responsibility between authorities and the public. Officials urged residents to report traffic violations responsibly while also following traffic rules themselves.

The department said the initiative was intended to encourage safer driving behaviour and help reduce road accidents across Bihar.

  • 🚗 Bihar is set to strengthen road safety standards with a major change in the driving licence process. Soon, applicants seeking a Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) licence will be required to complete certified training from a recognised driving institute before obtaining their licence.

The decision, approved by the Bihar Road Safety Council, aims to ensure that new drivers receive proper training in traffic rules, road safety practices, and responsible driving behaviour. With 41 operational driving training schools already functioning across the state and more institutes under development, the initiative is expected to improve driving standards and contribute to reducing road accidents.

Officials say the reform will help create a culture of safer and more disciplined driving across Bihar, placing greater emphasis on skill-based training before drivers take to the roads.
