Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on August 26 directed officials to remain on high alert as flash flood conditions in Nepal’s upper catchment areas raised the possibility of a sudden increase in water flow in the Gandak River.

Choudhary issued the directions during a high-level review meeting at Sankalp Hall at the Public Servants’ Residence in Patna. He called for special vigilance and immediate preparedness in districts likely to be affected by floodwaters entering Bihar from Nepal.

Six Districts Under Close Watch

Officials have been asked to continuously monitor the situation in West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Saran, Muzaffarpur and Vaishali, which are among the districts associated with the Gandak River and could be vulnerable to rising water levels.

The chief minister directed district administrations to closely track the inflow of floodwaters from Nepal and maintain constant communication on developments in vulnerable areas.

Round-The-Clock Embankment Monitoring

Choudhary said the safety and structural integrity of dams and embankments must remain a priority. Officials have been instructed to conduct continuous surveillance and immediately address any weak sections.

Special emphasis has been placed on night patrolling of dams and embankments to identify and respond to potential risks without delay.

Public Warnings And Rescue Preparedness

Local administrations have been directed to disseminate information and warnings to people in vulnerable and affected areas through loudspeakers and public address systems.

Officials have also been asked to ensure that residents can be moved to safer locations in time if the situation worsens.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been deployed for emergency response. District administrations have been instructed to coordinate with the teams for relief and rescue operations whenever required.

Choudhary directed administrative and technical teams to remain fully active and maintain continuous vigilance. He said public safety must remain the priority and there should be no negligence in relief and rescue operations.
