Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Lays Foundation Stone for New Eye Hospital in Patna

The super speciality R Jhunjhunwala Shankara Eye Hospital in Kankarbagh is expected to be ready by December 2026.

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday laid the foundation stone for the R Jhunjhunwala Shankara Eye Hospital in Kankarbagh, Patna. The Bhoomi Pujan ceremony was also held on the occasion, marking the beginning of construction for this super speciality facility under a public-private partnership model.
A short film showcasing the 48-year journey of R Jhunjhunwala Shankara Eye Hospital was screened for the chief minister. During the event, hospital management gave a detailed presentation about the building design, proposed patient and doctor facilities, and advanced medical equipment, including operation theatres. According to the presentation, the hospital is slated for completion by December 2026.

Addressing the gathering, CM Nitish said, “We have been working from the beginning to improve health services in the state so that no one has to go out of Bihar for treatment. With the construction of this eye hospital, people will get better health services.”
Hospital management welcomed the chief minister with a shawl and a symbol during the ceremony.

Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Health Minister Mangal Pandey, General Secretary of Bihar State Civil Council Arvind Kumar Singh alias Chhotu Singh, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, Development Commissioner Pratyaya Amrit, Secretary to the Chief Minister Kumar Ravi, Executive Director of Bihar State Health Committee Suharsh Bhagat, District Magistrate Tyagarajan S M, Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K Sharma and other senior officials were also present at the event.
