Patna: Bihar is set for another spell of harsh winter weather after Patna Meteorological Centre, issued a statewide alert for cold day conditions and dense fog from January 4 to January 6. The forecast points to sharply reduced visibility during morning and night hours, alongside a further dip in minimum temperatures.
According to the advisory, districts in north Bihar—including West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnea, Katihar and Saharsa—are likely to experience persistent dense fog coupled with cold day conditions. Minimum temperatures in several of these areas are expected to stay below seasonal norms, with readings hovering between 6°C and 8°C in some locations.

The weather office has also flagged a similar trend in Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Vaishali, Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj and Begusarai, where intensifying cold and fog are forecast to affect daily life. Officials said the lack of sunshine during the day could further aggravate the chill.
In south and central Bihar, including Patna, Nalanda, Jehanabad, Arwal, Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas, Kaimur, Aurangabad, Gaya and Nawada, dense fog is expected during the early morning hours. The conditions are likely to disrupt road and rail movement, with motorists advised to drive cautiously and follow safety advisories.

Meteorologists said the persistence of cold day conditions is linked to prevailing winter patterns, with no immediate relief in sight. Authorities have urged residents, particularly children, the elderly and those commuting early in the day, to take precautions as Bihar navigates another intense phase of the winter season.
