Patna: Cold weather has tightened its grip across Bihar, with temperatures falling steadily as cold, dry winds from northern India sweep through the state. According to the IMD’s Patna centre, minimum temperatures are expected to dip further in the coming days, while dense fog will continue to disrupt early-morning visibility, dropping to as low as 100 metres in several districts.
Over the past 24 to 48 hours, dense fog has engulfed more than 10 cities, including Patna, Khagaria, Gopalganj, Saran, Begusarai, Madhepura, Supaul, Jehanabad and Kishanganj. Visibility fell to between 100 and 200 metres in large parts of northern and northeastern Bihar, affecting road travel and slowing daily routines.
The IMD has advised travellers to remain cautious, with similar foggy conditions expected to persist for the next few days.

The severity of the cold wave is evident as minimum temperatures in at least four cities have dipped close to 10°C. The Met department predicts a further drop of 1–3°C within the next 48 hours. Light to moderate fog is forecast during morning and late-night hours in West and East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Kishanganj, Aurangabad, Banka, Bhagalpur, Sasaram and Kaimur.
Patna too has been feeling the bite of the cold. Minimum temperatures in the capital are expected to fall by another 1–2°C this week. While some sunshine is expected during the day, evenings will turn significantly colder. Maximum temperatures, however, are likely to remain largely unchanged over the next five days; Kishanganj recorded a high of 29°C on Tuesday.

Weather experts attribute the ongoing cold spell to persistent northwesterly winds, which have pushed temperatures down across Bihar. Increased humidity has intensified night-time and early-morning fog formation.
With no rain forecast, the IMD expects the current pattern to hold for the next two to three days. Dense fog will dominate the mornings, followed by brief spells of sunshine. The chill will intensify again in the evening and night, with temperatures dipping further. Fog is also likely to linger longer in areas along the Ganga basin, where moisture levels remain high.
