Patna: The Bihar Congress staged a massive protest at Income Tax Square, Patna, on Sunday, condemning the “inhumane treatment” of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) by US authorities and their “forcible” deportation to India in cargo planes while shackled in chains. Led by state Congress president Dr Akhilesh Prasad Singh, party workers also burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US president Donald Trump.
Congress Slams Modi Government’s Silence
Following the demonstration, Dr Akhilesh Prasad Singh criticised the PM Modi-led NDA government for its silence on the alleged mistreatment of Indian nationals in the US. He questioned the lack of response from External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, accusing the government of compromising the dignity of Indian citizens for the sake of its relations with the US.
“The BJP calls itself Vishwaguru, yet the respect of Indians has been mortgaged to its American friend Donald Trump,” Singh said. “Our fellow citizens are being deported in cargo planes with their hands and feet bound—a disgraceful and unacceptable act. The Modi government, which spends crores on global events like ‘Namaste Trump’ and ‘Howdy Modi’, couldn’t even arrange a single passenger aircraft for Indians facing deportation.”
He further alleged that the Modi government was failing in global diplomacy, stating that while the prime minister promotes India abroad through lavish event management, the ground reality exposes the country’s declining global standing.
Nationwide Protests by Congress
The Congress party has organised protests across the country against the issue, with demonstrations held in all districts of Bihar. The protest in Patna saw the participation of several senior party leaders and hundreds of workers, including former state president Dr Madan Mohan Jha, Wasi Akhtar, Gurjeet Singh, Sumit Kumar Sunny, Siddharth Kshatriya, Ramashankar Pandey, Nadeem Ansari, Urmila Singh Neelu, Praduman Yadav, Aditya Paswan, Vishal Ranjan, Sharif Rangrez, Ravi Kumar, Rahul Kumar Mishra, and Gurudayal Singh.
