Patna: The Bihar Congress finds itself in turmoil just days before the assembly elections, as internal dissent surfaces over ticket allocation. Afak Alam, the sitting MLA from Kasba in Purnia district, has accused the party leadership of demanding money in exchange for tickets and released an audio clip allegedly featuring his conversation with Bihar Congress president Rajesh Ram.
Alam, whose candidature was dropped this year, said tickets were being distributed based on money and influence rather than merit or public support. “Dedicated workers have no value left in the party,” he said, claiming that state leaders were prioritising personal gain over grassroots efforts.
The released audio clip, which has since gone viral online, allegedly captures a discussion about ticket-related negotiations. Alam can be heard questioning Rajesh Ram about the involvement of MP Pappu Yadav in the process. However, the authenticity of the clip remains unverified, and Jagran has not independently confirmed its contents.
The controversy erupted after the Congress replaced Alam with Mohammad Irfan Alam as its candidate for the Kasba seat. In the 2020 elections, Afak Alam had defeated LJP’s Pradeep Kumar Das by a narrow margin.
Both Rajesh Ram and Pappu Yadav have yet to issue statements regarding the allegations. The incident, however, has dealt another blow to the Congress in Bihar, which has struggled to maintain internal unity amid growing electoral challenges.
