Purnia: Bomb threats sent via email triggered panic at civil courts in Purnia and Kishanganj on Tuesday, leading to evacuations and a large-scale security response.
In Purnia, police teams led by Jyoti Shankar, Sadar SDPO-1, rushed to the court premises after receiving the alert. Authorities immediately evacuated the premises and halted traffic on nearby Kachari Road as a precaution.
Dog squads and bomb disposal teams carried out a thorough search of the Purnia Civil Court, while all shops within the premises were shut down. Officials noted that a similar threat had been received at the same court on February 13.
A parallel alert was issued at the Kishanganj Civil Court, which has also faced multiple threats in recent weeks. Security at the site was immediately intensified, with metal detectors installed and strict checks introduced for all entrants.
Ashok Kumar, the headquarters DSP, along with other officers, reached the spot to oversee the situation. He said the matter is under investigation and security has been heightened as a precautionary measure.
Officials declined to comment on the source or motive behind the threats, stating that further details would be shared after preliminary findings.
The incidents have raised concerns about security at court complexes in the region, particularly in light of repeated threats in recent weeks.
