Patna: Four courts in Bihar were thrown into a state of emergency after receiving an email threatening to blow up court buildings using RDX explosives. The courts named in the threat were the Patna Civil Court, Patna City Court, Kishanganj Civil Court and Gayaji Civil Court. The email claimed that three RDX devices had been planted inside the court premises. As soon as the message was received, police and court authorities treated it as a serious security risk and ordered the immediate evacuation of the buildings.
In Patna, the situation quickly became tense. Judges, lawyers and court staff were asked to leave their chambers, and all court work was stopped. Police teams from the Pirbahore police station began searching the Patna Civil Court thoroughly. Entry into the court campus was completely banned, and people arriving for hearings were sent back. Prisoners and witnesses were also returned without being produced in court. Similar precautionary steps were taken in Kishanganj and Gayaji, where security was increased and court premises were cleared.
Kishanganj superintendent of police Sagar Kumar said the threatening email had been sent from Tamil Nadu. He explained that special police teams were deployed to search the court buildings and surrounding areas. “So far, no suspicious object has been found,” he said. Officials added that security arrangements would remain tight until investigations are completed. Police are also trying to identify the sender of the email and find out whether the threat was genuine or a hoax.
This is not the first time courts in Bihar have received such threats. On October 16, 2025, similar emails claiming that RDX had been planted were sent to the Patna and Barh civil courts, creating panic among lawyers and litigants. Earlier, on August 28, 2025, the Patna Civil Court received another email alleging that four RDX IEDs had been placed inside the judges’ rooms and the court campus, with the message even mentioning Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI. Although no explosives have been found in any of these cases so far, the repeated threats have raised serious concerns about the safety and security of court premises in the state.
