Muzaffarpur: A contractor in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district has alleged that he was threatened and extorted for Rs 50 lakh by a sub-contractor working with him. The incident was reported from the Ahiyapur police station area, leaving the contractor and his family in fear.
The complainant, identified as Ram Singh Badal, has lodged an FIR against the accused at Ahiyapur police station. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
According to the complaint, Ram Singh Badal has been engaged in contract work for a long time and is currently associated with a project at Bhim Barrage in Birpur, Supaul district, which is part of the Kosi canal system. During the project, three individuals—Roshan Kumar, Rajeev Kumar, and Gopal Kumar—approached him and began working under a sub-contract arrangement.
The contractor stated that initially, payments and diesel expenses were provided as per company norms. However, he alleged that the accused later demanded additional work for their associates. When this was opposed, the accused reportedly reached his office, assaulted the manager, and issued threats.
“They told my manager to inform me that either we assign them more work or stop the project,” the complainant alleged.
Badal further claimed that the accused later made phone calls demanding Rs 50 lakh as extortion money and threatened to disrupt the work if the demand was not met.
Ahiyapur Station House Officer Rohan Kumar confirmed that a case has been registered based on the contractor’s complaint. “Preliminary investigation suggests that the sub-contractor demanded money and issued threats. Further probe is underway, and appropriate action will be taken,” he said.
Police said efforts are ongoing to verify the allegations and identify all those involved in the incident.
