Patna: A major transformation in public transport is underway in Patna, where a massive command centre for the Patna Metro is steadily taking shape. Spread over 32.77 hectares, this facility is not just a depot where trains are parked, but the central hub that will control and monitor the entire metro system. As construction progresses, the project is being seen as a key step towards making the city’s transport system faster, safer and more reliable for daily commuters.
The command centre is being designed as the “brain” of the metro network. From here, officials will be able to track every train in real time using advanced screens and monitoring systems. They will know exactly where each train is, how fast it is moving and whether there are any delays or issues. In case of emergencies, instructions can be sent immediately from this centre, helping ensure that passengers remain safe at all times. This system is expected to bring a new level of efficiency and control to urban travel in the city.
Safety checks and maintenance have also been given top priority at the depot. A 739-metre-long test track has been built within the facility where every train will be tested before it begins carrying passengers. Alongside this, a modern workshop equipped with advanced machines will carry out detailed inspections of the trains. From checking mechanical parts to electronic systems, every aspect will be carefully examined. The depot also includes eight stabling lines where trains will be kept overnight, maintained and prepared for the next day’s operations.
Cleanliness and passenger comfort are also key features of the project. An automatic coach washing plant has been installed, where trains can be cleaned quickly using sensor-based technology. As trains pass through the system, brushes and water jets will ensure they come out spotless within minutes. A separate heavy-duty cleaning setup will also be used for deeper cleaning when required. Altogether, the command centre reflects a larger vision of modern urban living, showing how infrastructure in Bihar is evolving to meet the needs of a growing city.
