Muzaffarpur: Many people in Bihar are losing their hard-earned money to cyber fraudsters. Despite being educated, they are becoming victims of online scams. After being cheated, they face taunts from their own family and friends. People ask them how they could get trapped despite their education and awareness.
Komal Kumari works in a private company. She saw a work-from-home advertisement on social media. When she clicked on it, fraudsters gave her some online tasks and took Rs 1.02 lakh from her in the name of investment. Now she feels suffocated when people keep asking her how she got cheated. She calls the cyber police regularly to ask about the refund but there has been no result yet.
Another victim, Vishal Kumar Kashyap, works in a big private technical institute. Last year, cyber fraudsters took Rs 7.74 lakh from him by making false promises. He filed an FIR on 17 October 2024 but no action has been taken till now. His family and friends make fun of him, asking how an educated teacher like him could get fooled so easily.
Similarly, Bhawna Nayak from Bairia Chanakyapuri lost Rs 2.84 lakh after clicking on a work-from-home link on Facebook. She filed a complaint on 3 April but there has been no progress. Her family keeps taunting her daily. She calls the investigating officer many times, but every time she only gets the answer that investigation is going on.
Cyber fraud victims in Bihar say that they feel broken from inside. They not only lose money but also face insult and humiliation from society while waiting endlessly for justice.
