Patna: The Bihar government has approved a 5% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees and pensioners, offering relief amid rising inflation and increasing household expenses.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday. The proposal applies to employees working under the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission, along with retired pensioners across the state.
With the latest revision, lakhs of government employees, including teachers, police personnel and administrative staff, are expected to see an increase in their monthly salaries. Pensioners will also receive revised pension amounts under the new DA structure.
According to the state government, the move was aimed at easing the financial burden caused by inflation and ensuring greater support for employees and retirees.
Officials said employees drawing the minimum basic pay of Rs 19,000 will receive an additional Rs 390 per month following the hike. At the senior level, IAS officers with a basic salary of Rs 2.25 lakh are expected to receive an increase of up to Rs 4,500 per month.
Pensioners are also set to benefit, with monthly pension increases ranging from approximately Rs 250 to Rs 2,200, depending on their pension bracket.
The cabinet approval is expected to increase the state’s expenditure burden, although the government has maintained that employee welfare remains a priority.
