Patna/Darbhanga: The body of a 16-year-old boy was recovered from a well in a village in Bihar’s Darbhanga district on Sunday, bringing a tragic end to days of uncertainty after he went missing late last month.
The teenager, identified as Varun Paswan, a resident of Murtujapur village under the Bahera police station area in Benipur subdivision, had been missing since December 31. He was preparing to appear for his matriculation examinations this year, according to his family.
Relatives said Varun left home on the afternoon of December 31 but did not return by nightfall. After extensive searches by family members and villagers failed to yield any information, his father filed a missing persons report with the police on January 1.
While the police investigation was ongoing, villagers noticed a body inside a well used for agricultural irrigation on Sunday morning and alerted authorities. Police arrived at the scene and retrieved the body, which was later identified by family members.
News of the recovery plunged the village into mourning. Family members were inconsolable, and residents described Varun as a student who was enthusiastic about his studies and upcoming examinations.
Police have taken the body into custody and sent it for postmortem examination. Officials said the cause of death would be determined after the autopsy report is received. An investigation is underway, and no conclusions have been drawn at this stage.
