Patna: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has accused the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government of deliberately putting on hold the proposed medical college in Gopalganj, a project announced by opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav during his tenure as deputy chief minister.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, RJD district president Dilip Kumar Singh alleged that government representatives were attempting to claim credit for the project in a way that could ultimately lead to its cancellation. He said the move was aimed at preventing the completion of what he described as Yadav’s “dream project”.
Yadav, who also held the health portfolio at the time, had announced the establishment of a medical college in his home district in 2022. Singh claimed that following the change in government, the project had been pushed into “cold storage” to ensure it did not come to fruition.
“This will not be accepted under any circumstances,” Singh said, adding that the party viewed the alleged delay as politically motivated.
The RJD warned that it would launch a mass agitation if construction work on the medical college was not initiated at the earliest. The party also raised additional demands, including granting subdivision status to Barauli, shifting the subdivision police office from Sidhwalia to Barauli, and ensuring a halt for the Chhapra–Gomtinagar Express at Ratansarai railway station.
Addressing the gathering, RJD principal general secretary Imtiaz Ali Bhutto accused leaders of the ruling National Democratic Alliance of lacking seriousness over the proposed medical college and engaging in internal disputes that were hampering development in Gopalganj.
The state government has not yet responded publicly to the allegations.
