Patna: On the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, daughters of Bihar captivated audiences by performing Maithili bhajans, bringing a spiritual atmosphere to the memorial event. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who paid tribute at the ‘Sadhayv Atal’ memorial in Delhi, also met the performers and commended their talent.
The two young women presented the rich cultural traditions of Mithilaanchal on a national stage, earning applause from President Draupadi Murmu. The performance was widely shared on social media, reinforcing Bihar’s cultural heritage at a national level.
Vajpayee, who served three terms as India’s Prime Minister, is remembered for his contributions to economic reforms, infrastructure development, and India’s international diplomacy, including the Kargil war strategy. PM Modi highlighted that Vajpayee’s legacy continues to inspire citizens to work towards a developed and self-reliant India.
Recently, Maithili Thakur, another singer from Bihar, was among 23 recipients of the National Creators Award for her Shiv bhajans in Maithili, reflecting the growing recognition of Mithila’s musical tradition.
