Patna: Bihar is celebrating its 115th foundation day with a series of cultural and official events across the state, marking the occasion with three days of festivities in district headquarters, including the capital Patna.
The celebrations, observed as Bihar Day, feature colourful programmes showcasing the state’s heritage, culture and development journey.
On the occasion, industrialist Anil Agarwal, founder and chairman of Vedanta Group, extended an emotional message to the people of Bihar, recalling his deep personal connection with the state where he was born and raised.
In a post on social media platform X, Agarwal reflected on his early years in Bihar and the lasting influence it has had on his life. “No matter where I live, a Bihar within me always accompanies me,” he said, adding that memories of local traditions, food and festivals continue to shape his identity.
He highlighted elements such as the aroma of traditional dishes like litti-chokha and the spirit of festivals like Chhath, describing them as enduring symbols of Bihar’s culture and resilience.
Agarwal also emphasised the growing global presence of Bihar’s youth, noting that young people from the state are making their mark not only across India but internationally. He linked this progress to Bihar’s long-standing legacy of knowledge and learning, referencing historic centres such as Nalanda and figures like Aryabhata.
Addressing young people, particularly women, he outlined three key messages: to dream big while staying rooted, to preserve education as a core strength, and to carry their identity with pride wherever they go.
The billionaire industrialist also expressed his interest in investing in Bihar, stating that he has been exploring opportunities for some time. While acknowledging that emotional ties are strong, he noted that practical feasibility remains an important consideration.
He pointed to the success of initiatives such as the Nand Ghar programme in Rajasthan, which focuses on child nutrition, early education and women’s skill development, and suggested that similar efforts could be replicated in Bihar.
Agarwal said his vision includes ensuring that no child in the state goes to bed hungry and that women are empowered through economic opportunities. He expressed confidence that Bihar is poised to play a significant role in India’s future growth story.
Born in Patna, Agarwal began his career in his father’s small aluminium business before moving to Mumbai at the age of 19. He later built Vedanta Resources into a global enterprise, with operations spanning multiple countries.
As Bihar marks another milestone in its history, the celebrations and messages from prominent figures reflect both pride in its heritage and aspirations for its future development.
