Patna: Bihar has upgraded the security cover of its two deputy chief ministers, Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, to ‘Z’ category, significantly enhancing their protection arrangements.
The decision, confirmed by the state police headquarters, has been implemented with immediate effect.
What ‘Z’ Category Security Entails
Under the ‘Z’ category, a comprehensive security cordon is deployed, comprising 22 to 24 personnel, including four to six commandos from paramilitary forces such as the Central Reserve Police Force and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
The security system operates round the clock and includes:
- Mobile security cover during movement
- Permanent deployment at official residences
- Escort vehicles and secured convoys
- Advance route checks and surveillance
Officials said intelligence agencies will maintain constant monitoring, with heightened vigilance in sensitive areas.
Decision Based On Security Inputs
Authorities said the upgrade was made in view of the political and administrative importance of the two leaders, as well as recent intelligence inputs.
The state government emphasised that ensuring the safety of high-ranking officials remains a priority, adding that there would be no compromise on security standards.
Ongoing Review Of Security Protocols
Police headquarters said security arrangements for VVIPs are subject to periodic review, with categories assigned based on threat perception.
Further changes to the security framework may be made if required, officials added, as part of efforts to maintain law and order and ensure adequate protection for public representatives.
