Patna: Bihar’s development priorities were showcased through 13 tableaux at Gandhi Maidan on Independence Day, with departments highlighting themes ranging from smart farming and modern education to environmental conservation, women’s livelihoods, animal husbandry and industrial development.

The tableaux formed part of the state-level Independence Day celebrations, where Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary hoisted the Tricolour at Gandhi Maidan for the first time since taking charge as chief minister. The display was presented as a visual account of the state government’s schemes, achievements and development priorities.

Officials had earlier said tableaux from 13 departments would be part of the celebrations, alongside 20 parade contingents. The participating departments included environment and climate change, rural development, education, agriculture, industries, energy and women and child development.

Natural Heritage And Conservation

The tableau of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department focused on Bihar’s natural and religious heritage.

It featured Kaimur’s Maa Mundeshwari Dham, Bhimbandh Wildlife Sanctuary and Valmiki Tiger Reserve, bringing together religious tourism, wildlife conservation and the state’s forest resources.

The themes also reflected Bihar’s wider focus on eco-tourism. The state has been considering the development of more than 24 eco-tourism destinations, including Valmiki Tiger Reserve, Bhimbandh Wildlife Sanctuary, Mundeshwari Dham and other sites of ecological, historical and religious importance.

Digital Education

Heritage Meets Digital Education

The Department of Art, Culture and Youth Affairs presented the ‘Jaan Bharat’ tableau, focusing on heritage conservation and the digitisation of ancient manuscripts.

The education-themed tableau, presented by the Bihar Education Project Council and Education Department, highlighted the state’s modern education system and various schemes of the chief minister.

Together, the displays linked preservation of Bihar’s cultural heritage with the use of technology in education.

Smart Farming

Smart Farming Takes Centre Stage

The Agriculture Department’s ‘Smart Farming’ tableau focused on the use of modern technology and scientific methods in agriculture.

Models depicting fields, crops and farmers illustrated how technology can be integrated into farming practices to improve productivity, reduce costs and support higher farm incomes.

The theme is also in line with wider efforts to promote climate-smart and resource-efficient agriculture in Bihar. ICAR has highlighted scientific nutrient management, soil-health protection and climate-resilient farming practices as important measures for farmers in flood-prone and soil-degraded areas of the state.

The tableau used rural settings and farming-related installations to present the transition from conventional agriculture towards technology-driven farming.

Animal Husbandry and Jeevika

Jeevika And Animal Husbandry Highlight Rural Livelihoods

The Jeevika and Animal Husbandry departments focused on rural livelihoods and self-reliance.

Their tableaux highlighted animal resource centres, veterinary health services, animal nutrition, vaccination and improved animal husbandry practices as avenues for strengthening household incomes.

The presentation also placed rural women and livestock rearers at the centre of livelihood generation. Jeevika’s work in Bihar includes supporting women through self-help groups and livelihood activities such as agriculture, animal husbandry, food processing and small enterprises.

Recent government initiatives have also linked Jeevika with livestock-based livelihoods. Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society records initiatives covering animal health and awareness camps, poultry and fisheries-based livelihood interventions.

Development Across Key Sectors

The remaining tableaux broadened the presentation to other areas of governance, including energy, industry, rural development and women and child development.

The overall display brought together economic development, public services, agriculture, conservation and social welfare, reflecting the government’s stated emphasis on a developed Bihar.

The tableaux were part of a larger state-level programme at Gandhi Maidan. Twenty parade contingents participated in the celebrations, while arrangements included an 80,000 sq ft covered spectator gallery, CCTV surveillance, drones and a three-tier security system.

The display of the 13 tableaux gave visitors a visual overview of the schemes and sectors the state government has placed at the centre of its development agenda.
