Bihar DGP Reviews Security, Orders Heightened Vigilance Ahead of Civil Defence Mock Drill

Patna: In the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack and a nationwide security alert, Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar held a high-level virtual meeting on Tuesday with all senior police officials, including Inspectors General (IGs), Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), Superintendents of Police (SPs), and the Railway SP.
The meeting, which lasted over two and a half hours, was convened to review the law and order situation across Bihar and to issue fresh directives ahead of the civil defence mock drill scheduled for Wednesday evening.
The drill, mandated by the Union Home Ministry, will simulate emergency response scenarios involving a full power shutdown and a halt in vehicular movement across key cities, including Patna, Purnia, Katihar, Begusarai, and Barauni. Sirens will be sounded at 6:58pm in these cities, followed by a complete power cut from 7pm to 7:10pm.
During the security briefing, DGP Vinay Kumar instructed all district police heads to be on high alert and ensure that the drill is carried out smoothly and with full coordination. Special emphasis was laid on border security, with the DGP warning that no lapses would be tolerated in districts adjoining Nepal.
He further ordered increased patrolling, enhanced surveillance, and a thorough review of CCTV systems, particularly in high-footfall and sensitive areas. “The security arrangements must be watertight. We cannot afford any complacency, especially at a time when national security is under strain,” said the DGP.
The civil defence mock drill is part of a broader effort by the Centre to test the preparedness of states in responding to potential large-scale emergencies, including terror strikes and natural disasters. Bihar police have been asked to closely monitor public response and inter-agency coordination during the 10-minute exercise.
Senior officials have also been told to maintain close contact with intelligence units and respond promptly to any suspicious activity reported during the drill or in the days to follow.
