Patna: Police in Bihar have been barred from taking selfies with members of the public, elected representatives or journalists, after the state’s top officer warned that such images were being misused.
The directive, issued by director general of police Vinay Kumar, instructs officers not to pose for photographs in any circumstances, including during courtesy visits. A circular has been sent to all inspectors general, deputy inspectors general and district superintendents to ensure compliance.
Kumar said photographs with police personnel had been exploited by individuals to serve “vested interests”, adding that the force’s work was “very sensitive” and required strict conduct.
He warned that any violation of the order would invite disciplinary proceedings under the Bihar Government Servants Conduct Rules, 1976, and the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968.
