Patna: Police in Patna are investigating conflicting accounts surrounding an alleged kidnapping after CCTV footage showed a boy, who had earlier claimed he was abducted, travelling alone in an auto-rickshaw.
The boy, a resident of Balmichak in Beur, approached traffic police officers near Patna Junction in a distressed state. He told officers that he had been abducted by seven men in a black Scorpio SUV, who, he claimed, were assaulting him before he managed to escape.
Sub-inspector Kailash Ram, who was on traffic duty at the junction, said the boy ran from the SUV screaming and that two men inside appeared to be trying to restrain him. Police contacted his family after obtaining a number from him.
The boy’s father, Dr Kamlesh Kumar, is a professor, while his mother, Sharmila Kumari, said her son had left home around 5.45pm to buy notebooks and pencils but did not return. “We waited for him and searched nearby shops when he didn’t come back. Later, we received a call from traffic police that he was found near Patna Junction,” she said, adding that the family had no disputes with anyone.
However, investigators have so far found no evidence of abduction. CCTV footage that emerged later shows the boy arriving at the location in an auto-rickshaw, apparently contradicting his version of events. Police say they are continuing to examine the case.
