Patna: Bihar is set to celebrate Diwali with traditional grandeur today on Kartik Amavasya, with residents across Patna engaging in prayers, rituals, and festivities. Authorities have deployed fire units and emergency services at major intersections to ensure public safety during the celebrations.
Today’s observances coincide with a combination of astrological events, including Hasta Nakshatra, Vaidhriti Yoga, Kalakshi Yoga, Buddhaditya Yoga, and Hans Mahapurush Rajyoga. Devotees will worship Goddess Mahalakshmi at homes, offices, and factories, praying for wealth, prosperity, and success. Alongside Lakshmi, Ganesh, Kubera, Saraswati, the Panchdevas, Navagraha, and Ambika are also being worshipped to mark the auspicious day.
Astrologer Rakesh Jha highlighted the significance of the planetary alignment, noting that worshipping Ganesha together with Mahalakshmi is believed to bring prosperity, happiness, and success. “May Goddess Lakshmi bestow wealth and prosperity, and may Ganesha remove obstacles, ensuring the fulfilment of all wishes,” he said.
Jha also explained the symbolic importance of earthen lamps, or diyas, which are traditionally lit during Diwali. “The lamps, formed from water, air, and fire elements, enhance courage and valor while promoting family happiness and prosperity,” he added.
Heightened Safety Measures
Anticipating the risks associated with firecrackers and oil lamps, local authorities have placed fire stations on high alert across Patna and other districts. Ten fire brigade vehicles have been deployed to strategic locations, including Dak Bungalow, NIT, Boring Road, Patna Junction, Patliputra, Digha Ghat, Rajiv Nagar, and Atal Path. Two vehicles will operate in particularly crowded or sensitive areas, while control rooms remain staffed 24/7.
In addition, hospitals in the city—including PMCH, NMCH, Gardner, LNJP, IGIMS, and AIIMS—have been put on alert. Emergency beds and ambulances are ready to respond to any incidents arising from the celebrations.
