Patna: Bihar will celebrate Bihar Diwas from March 22 to 24, with the state government planning a three-day programme of cultural, educational and civic events under the theme “Unnat Bihar, Ujjwal Bihar (Advanced Bihar, Bright Bihar)”.
The main state-level celebrations in the capital will be held at Gandhi Maidan, Shri Krishna Memorial Hall and Rabindra Bhavan. The programme will be inaugurated by the chief minister Nitish Kumar on March 22, while the closing ceremony on March 24 will be presided over by the governor.
Beyond Patna, the government has decided to observe Bihar Diwas as a festival at the district, block and school levels. In a letter to all district magistrates, Naveen Kumar, state project director of the Bihar Education Project Council, outlined detailed instructions to ensure uniform celebrations across the state.
As part of the preparations, cleanliness drives, painting and decorative lighting using blue series lights will be carried out at collectorates, district offices, block resource centres, block offices and schools. Educational institutions have been encouraged to organise activities for children using their composite grant funds.
Schools will host a range of academic and creative competitions, including mathematics olympiads, quiz contests and drawing competitions. Winners at the school level will advance to block-level events, followed by district-level competitions. The top performers at the district level will participate in the state-level contests scheduled during the March 22–24 celebrations.
In addition, schools have been instructed to organise rangoli, fancy dress, essay writing and debate competitions, with prizes to be awarded at the institutional level. Morning processions, cycle rallies and sports competitions are also planned to mark the occasion.
Officials said the aim of the expanded celebrations is to involve students and local communities more closely, while showcasing Bihar’s cultural heritage, educational focus and developmental aspirations through coordinated events across the state.
