Gayaji: A well-known retired health official in Bihar was shot on Saturday morning in what police suspect may be linked to a long-running property dispute with his son.
Dr. Tapeshwar Prasad Singh, a retired Director General (Health), was attacked by three masked assailants at around 8.30am near Sheikhpura Mod in Sherghati, Gaya district. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers fired at him at close range before fleeing the scene. Singh sustained a gunshot wound to the face and was initially taken to the local sub-divisional hospital before being referred to Gaya for specialised treatment.
Police arrived shortly after the incident and have launched an investigation. A pistol believed to have been used in the attack was recovered at the scene after reportedly falling from one of the attackers during their escape. Locals handed it over to the authorities.
Police are probing the possible involvement of contract killers, though no arrests have yet been made.
The shooting follows a string of violent incidents involving Singh. Six months ago, his residence was reportedly targeted in a bombing. Singh has been embroiled in a protracted property dispute with his son, Dr. Shashi Ranjan, who is also a medical professional. He had previously filed a formal complaint against his son with local police.
