Patna: An elderly woman was killed during a suspected robbery in Patna’s Adarsh Nagar locality in the early hours of Saturday, with police suspecting the involvement of someone known to the victim.
The incident took place around 2am on Friday night in the Phulwari Sharif police station area. The victim, identified as 70-year-old Shanti Devi, was allegedly strangled after burglars broke into her home using a gas cutter to force open the door. Several items were reported stolen from the house.
The crime came to light on Saturday morning when family members discovered the body and alerted the police. Senior officials, including SP City West Bhanu Pratap Singh and Phulwari DSP, visited the scene along with a forensic team.
“Prima facie, it appears to be a case of murder during robbery. However, the precision with which the door was cut and the manner in which the cupboard was shut after the incident suggest that the attacker may have been familiar with the victim,” Singh said.
Police believe the attacker had prior knowledge of Shanti Devi’s daily routine. The investigation is ongoing, and statements from local residents are being recorded as authorities work to identify the suspect.
