Patna: Bihar’s power authorities are stepping up efforts to recover outstanding electricity bills, with strict action planned against major defaulters. The state has also announced that the list of non-paying consumers will now be updated regularly.
The decision was taken during a revenue review meeting at Vidyut Bhawan on Friday, presided over by Manoj Kumar Singh, Energy Secretary and Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited. Officials from both the South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited and the North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited attended the session.
During the meeting, officials assessed progress in revenue collection and issued directives aimed at accelerating the recovery of pending dues. The Energy Secretary instructed authorities to maintain an up-to-date list of defaulting consumers and to take strict action against all defaulters, with a focus on major cases.
The meeting also outlined measures to strengthen revenue collection, including launching special campaigns against defaulters and enforcing a complete ban on “double connections” for single premises. Authorities were urged to identify such cases promptly to prevent further losses.
Both South and North Bihar power distribution companies have been assigned a revenue collection target of Rs 100 crore each, to be achieved by March 31.
