Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several districts across Bihar, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next four days as weather conditions across the state remain unsettled.
According to the weather department, the alert will remain in place from March 15 to 18, with different districts expected to experience varying levels of rainfall and storm activity. Several areas have already witnessed light showers and increased cloud cover, while sunshine has remained limited in many parts of the state.
On March 15, a yellow alert has been issued for districts including East Champaran, West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Purnia, Katihar, Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Saharsa, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Munger, Banka and Jamui. Weather officials said these regions may experience moderate to heavy rain along with wind speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour.
The alert will expand across the entire state on March 16, with meteorologists warning that thunderstorms, lightning and winds of 40 to 50 km per hour could affect many districts. Experts say the weather shift is being driven by a Western Disturbance, combined with moisture-laden winds arriving from the Bay of Bengal.
Scientists have cautioned that the changing weather may impact farmers, particularly where crops are currently standing in fields. Strong winds and storms could damage crops and may also disrupt electricity supply in some areas.
Officials said the current weather pattern is being intensified by the interaction of western winds and humid air from the Bay of Bengal, creating favourable conditions for cloud formation and rainfall. In the state capital Patna, cloud movement has been observed for the past two days, with limited sunshine due to persistent cloud cover.
