Patna: Bihar is planning to accelerate the development of eco-tourism by opening the sector to greater private investment, with the state government aiming to combine wildlife conservation with economic growth and employment generation.
The strategy was outlined during the 15th meeting of the Bihar State Wildlife Board, chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary in Patna on Sunday.
The board reviewed a series of proposals relating to wildlife conservation, eco-tourism and environmentally sustainable development across the state.
PPP Model At Centre Of Tourism Expansion
Addressing the meeting, Chaudhary directed officials to prepare a time-bound action plan for implementing tourism projects under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
He said the government should promote organised commercial activities at tourist destinations while improving visitor facilities.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to prioritise the development of hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, trekking routes and adventure tourism infrastructure to attract more visitors and private investment.
He also called for regular monitoring of all approved projects to ensure timely implementation.

Rohtas Identified As Eco-Tourism Hub
The Chief Minister directed the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to prepare a comprehensive eco-tourism development plan for the Rohtas region.
He said the plan should explore investment opportunities in green energy while developing tourism infrastructure in the Rohtas and Durgawati areas.
Chaudhary also proposed the planned development of areas surrounding dams, including hotels, restaurants and other visitor amenities.
He further instructed officials to prepare integrated tourism plans for hilly destinations, incorporating trekking, sightseeing, adventure tourism and enhanced visitor safety.
Conservation And Heritage To Go Hand In Hand
The Chief Minister emphasised that the protection of Bihar’s natural and historical heritage should remain central to tourism development.
He directed officials to strengthen coordination between the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to improve conservation of heritage sites and natural assets.
“Bihar is rich in natural, historical and cultural heritage. Conserving these assets while developing them as tourist destinations is among the government’s priorities,” Chaudhary said.
He added that the initiative was expected to create employment opportunities for local communities, attract private investment and strengthen Bihar’s position on the national and international tourism map.

Wildlife Board Reviews Conservation Proposals
During the meeting, Anand Kishore, Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, presented proposals relating to wildlife conservation, eco-tourism expansion and environmental sustainability.
The board discussed measures aimed at strengthening biodiversity conservation while promoting responsible, nature-based tourism across the state.
The meeting was attended by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Dr Ramchandra Prasad, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, senior officials from the Forest Department and Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation, legislators, and members of the Bihar State Wildlife Board, with several participants joining through video conferencing.
