Patna: Bihar experienced a hot and humid Sunday, with bright sunshine prevailing across Patna and most parts of the state. Temperatures also rose during the day, adding to discomfort for residents.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), maximum temperatures are likely to increase by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius in most districts over the next 24 hours.
The rise, however, is expected to be temporary as monsoon activity is likely to strengthen from July 28. Weather scientists said the southwest monsoon remains active across Bihar and rainfall is expected to increase towards the end of the month.
Bihar has received around 39% less rainfall than normal so far in July, according to the weather department. Officials expect rainfall during the final days of the month to partially reduce the deficit.
Light rain in four districts
Rainfall remained limited across Bihar during the past 24 hours. Light rain was reported at one or two locations in Jehanabad, Sheikhpura, Patna and Vaishali.
Jehanabad recorded the highest rainfall at 4.5 mm, followed by 3 mm in Sheikhpura, 2.2 mm in Barh in Patna district and 0.2 mm in Vaishali.
Meanwhile, Motihari recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 37.2°C during the period.
With monsoon activity expected to intensify from July 28, Bihar could see a change in weather conditions after the brief spell of heat and humidity.
