Sitamarhi: Voting for the Bihar Assembly elections, covering 122 seats across 20 districts, began at 7am on Tuesday. However, polling in Sitamarhi district’s Runnisaidpur constituency was marred by controversy after a polling agent of the Janata Dal (United) was accused of distributing party pamphlets to voters.
The Election Commission took swift action after a video of the incident went viral, filing a case against the accused polling agent, identified as Gautam Kumar, who was representing JD(U) candidate Pankaj Mishra. Officials said the act constituted a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
The alleged incident took place at booth number 270 in the Runnisaidpur Assembly segment. According to local reports, Jan Suraaj Party candidate Vijay Kumar Sah confronted the polling agent after allegedly catching him distributing the pamphlets, leading to chaos at the polling station.
Police and the Sector Magistrate arrived on the scene shortly after and began an investigation. The district administration has assured that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty.
The Election Commission reiterated that it would not tolerate any breach of electoral conduct during polling, emphasising its commitment to ensuring free and fair elections across the state.
