Patna: Tejashwi Yadav appears set to retain the Raghopur assembly seat after late-round trends pushed him decisively ahead, despite a difficult day overall for the Rashtriya Janata Dal. For several hours, counting suggested a tight contest, prompting speculation that even one of the RJD’s tallest leaders might struggle to hold his ground.
According to the Election Commission’s updated figures, Yadav has crossed the one-lakh vote mark, pulling roughly 14,000 votes ahead of his closest rival, Satish Kumar of the BJP. While the result is yet to be formally declared, the margins in the final rounds indicate a near-certain outcome.
The race remained delicately poised until the last phase of counting. Trends swung repeatedly between the RJD and the BJP, before the final rounds tipped decisively towards Yadav. Independent candidate Baliram Singh finished in third place, while Chanchal Kumar of Jan Suraj secured only 2,371 votes.
The RJD’s broader performance, however, has fallen far short of expectations, even as its leader holds his personal seat. Across the state, the NDA’s commanding performance has reshaped the political map, leaving little room for the opposition to manoeuvre.
