Patna: The first phase of voting in the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 is set to take place tomorrow, across 121 constituencies in 18 districts. As millions of voters prepare to cast their ballots, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has rolled out extensive measures to ensure security, transparency, and a smooth polling experience.
According to the ECI, every polling booth will be monitored through live webcasting, while security personnel and armed forces will be deployed across all polling locations. Voting hours will vary by constituency to manage turnout efficiently and prevent overcrowding.
In 13 constituencies, including Tarapur, Kalyanpur, Samastipur, Ujiarpur, and Morwa, voting will run from 7am to 5pm. In Simri Bakhtiyarpur and Mahisi, the process will end an hour earlier, at 4pm, while in the remaining 105 constituencies, polling will continue until 6pm.
Checking your voter details
Voters can verify their names on the electoral roll online via the Election Commission’s website electoralsearch.eci.gov.in, through the Voter Helpline App, or by visiting special verification camps set up at polling stations.
Importantly, even without a voter ID card, individuals whose names appear on the electoral list can still vote by presenting any valid photo identification document. Acceptable IDs include a passport, driving licence, PAN card, Aadhaar card, bank or post office passbook, MNREGA job card, pension card with photograph, NPR smart card, identity card issued by an MP/MLA/MLC, or a government employee ID.
What to do if your vote has already been cast
In cases where a vote has been wrongly recorded, the ECI has reminded voters of the “tendered vote” provision. If this occurs, voters must immediately inform the presiding officer, who, after verifying their documents, will allow them to cast a valid paper ballot.
Special arrangements and voter awareness
Polling stations have been equipped with adequate staff, EVMs, and VVPATs, while local administrations have introduced traffic and security regulations to facilitate orderly voting. Campaigns such as “Mera Pehla Vote – Desh Ke Naam” aim to engage and motivate first-time voters to participate actively in the democratic process.
A decisive phase for Bihar
The first phase of the Bihar election is being viewed as a critical test not only for political parties but also for an increasingly aware and aspirational electorate. The ECI has urged voters to arrive with the correct information and necessary documents to ensure every vote counts.
