Patna: The Election Commission has sought a detailed report from Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar over the killing of RJD leader Dularchand Yadav in Mokama, which has triggered tension just days before the Bihar Assembly elections. Dularchand, 76, was shot dead on Thursday afternoon while campaigning with Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi.
The atmosphere in Mokama remained tense on Friday as armed police led Yadav’s funeral procession amid chants of “Dularchand Amar Rahe.” Shops in Pandarak were shut in protest, while supporters demanded the immediate arrest of former MLA Anant Singh, who has been named as the prime accused in the case.
According to the FIR lodged at Bhadaur police station, Anant Singh, his nephews Ranveer and Karamveer, along with associates Chhotan Singh and Kanjay Singh, are accused of opening fire on Dularchand’s convoy near Basawan Chak. Police said dozens of unidentified individuals are also under investigation.
Earlier in the day, a scuffle broke out between police and supporters outside Barh government hospital during the postmortem. Protesters demanded a “live postmortem” and raised slogans against Anant Singh. A heavy police deployment was made to prevent escalation.
Family members later took the body for cremation in a tractor-trolley, with Suraj Bhan Singh’s wife, Veena Devi — the RJD candidate from Mokama — accompanying the procession.
The murder follows Dularchand’s recent controversial remarks about Anant Singh’s wife, Neelam Devi, a sitting MP, accusing her of being “inauthentic” and “brought from outside.” Responding to the allegations, Anant Singh claimed he was being framed, blaming rival leader Suraj Bhan Singh for the incident.
