Patna: Congress leader and star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is set to enter the Bihar Assembly election campaign from November 1, marking her first major foray into the state’s political battleground. The Congress and its allies in the Grand Alliance are banking on Priyanka’s charisma and assertive political persona to make inroads into Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s strong base of women voters.
However, her late entry into the campaign has sparked debate within political circles. Analysts are questioning whether her participation will prove decisive for the Grand Alliance or remain a largely symbolic effort.
According to the Congress’s official schedule, Priyanka Gandhi will launch her campaign with two rallies on November 1 — first in Bachhwara, Begusarai, to support Youth Congress President and candidate Shiv Prakash Garib Das, followed by another in Beldaur, Khagaria. She is expected to address further rallies in Lakhisarai and Rosera on November 3, Govindganj and Chanpatia on November 6, and Kadwa and Kasba on November 8.
Congress insiders describe Priyanka’s campaign as part of a focused strategy to engage women voters. Her speeches will centre on the Grand Alliance’s promises of women’s empowerment and social welfare. Party leaders, including national media coordinator Abhay Dubey and former executive president Kaukab Qadri, said Priyanka Gandhi has been a vocal advocate for women’s rights through initiatives such as the “Lakshmi Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon” campaign.
The challenge ahead, however, is formidable. CM Nitish Kumar’s policies — including prohibition, the bicycle and uniform schemes, and reservations for women — have earned him a reputation as a pro-women leader. Political observers say it will be difficult for the Congress to erode that trust in a limited campaign window.
