Muzaffarpur: Health authorities in Muzaffarpur have shifted to high alert ahead of the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, stepping up preparations to respond to medical emergencies that may arise during voting on Thursday.
A dedicated election control room is being set up on the premises of Sadar Hospital, from where officials will oversee and coordinate health services across the district. The aim, the administration said, is to ensure that any medical emergency affecting polling staff or voters is addressed without delay.
24/7 control room for quick response
The district health department will operate a round-the-clock emergency control room throughout the polling period. Officials said the existing AES control room at Sadar Hospital is being repurposed for election duty and will maintain constant communication with all health centres.
Upon receiving emergency information, medical teams will be dispatched immediately to prevent treatment delays. Ambulance services in particular have been placed on standby.
Doctors and staff on standby
Doctors across the district have been instructed to remain on alert on voting day. Primary health centres, sub-centres and ambulance units have been directed to operate 24 hours. Each block has been assigned senior medical officers to supervise health readiness in their respective areas.
Ambulances will be stationed near polling booths so that any voter or polling personnel facing sudden illness can be taken to the nearest hospital swiftly. Hospitals have been stocked with essential medicines, injections and primary treatment supplies.
Officials said all medical staff have had their leave cancelled for the election period.
Monitoring for smooth voting
The district control room will maintain constant communication with health centres and field teams to ensure uninterrupted service. Authorities emphasised that maintaining functional health support is critical for a smooth and secure polling process.
