Patna: The Bihar Energy Department has issued an advisory ahead of Holi, urging residents to observe safety measures during Holika Dahan to prevent electrical accidents and ensure uninterrupted power supply across the state.
In a statement released on Friday, the department asked the public not to light Holika Dahan fires near electric poles, overhead lines or transformers, warning that flames could damage or snap cables and lead to serious accidents. Officials said such incidents could not only endanger lives but also disrupt electricity supply during the festival.
The department said it aims to ensure that people across Bihar celebrate Holi without inconvenience. Consumers have been advised to maintain a safe distance from all electrical infrastructure while organising community bonfires.
In case of emergencies or power-related complaints, residents can call the toll-free number 1912 or contact their nearest fuse call centre. The energy secretary has directed officers and engineers to remain on alert and ensure that there are no power outages during the festival, while strictly adhering to safety protocols.
Alongside the safety advisory, the department has also appealed to consumers to clear pending electricity bills. Field staff are conducting door-to-door visits to remind defaulting consumers to settle outstanding dues. According to officials, electricity connections may be disconnected in cases of continued non-payment.
Manoj Kumar Singh, chairman-cum-managing director of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited, said timely payment of bills would help maintain operational efficiency and support the smooth functioning of the power distribution system during peak festive demand.
