Patna: A 45-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in the neck in broad daylight near a market in the Alamganj area of Patna, police said on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Sulekha Gupta, was attacked with a sharp weapon close to the area adjoining Dadar Mandi Mosque around noon. She was rushed to the Nalanda Medical College and Hospital by her husband, a clerk at the civil court in Gaighat, after he received information that she had been injured, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Her husband told police that he had been at work when he was informed that his wife had fallen from a bench at home. On reaching the location, he found her lying severely injured with deep wounds to her neck. The circumstances of the attack remain unclear.
Officers from the local police station and senior investigators, including Rajkishore Singh, visited the scene and began collecting evidence. Rahul Kumar Thakur said an investigation is under way and a forensic team has been summoned to assist in gathering material.
Police have not established a motive and the victim’s family reported no known enmities. Officials said inquiries were being pursued from all angles.
