Bihar Engineer Missing in Iran Amid Tensions, Family Urges PM Modi to Intervene

Begusarai: The family of a 31-year-old mechanical engineer from Bihar has made an emotional appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for assistance after losing contact with their son, who went missing in Iran amid growing regional instability.
Syed Saifullah, a resident of Badi Balia village in Begusarai district, has been untraceable since June 17. Employed by Petrosaz General Contractor Company, Saifullah had travelled to Iran from Saudi Arabia on June 12 to oversee operations at an industrial plant. His last known contact was with his wife at around 1:30 am on June 17, after which his phone and WhatsApp went offline.
Days earlier, on June 13, he had told his younger brother that he was “hiding in a bunker” and that “the situation here is very bad”, referring to rising tensions between Iran and Israel. That was the final conversation hinting at potential danger.
The family, growing increasingly desperate, has written to the District Magistrate of Begusarai, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pleading for action to secure his safe return.
“He said that if he had known about these conditions just a day earlier, he would never have gone to Iran,” said Asadullah Azad, Saifullah’s younger brother. “Now, there is no word, and every day is only increasing our fear.”
The contractor, which reportedly sent 30–40 Indian workers to Iran, has lost contact with all of them. Family members say they have been told that the internet is down, networks are blocked, and curfew-like conditions prevail in the region where Saifullah was stationed.
