Patna: The Bihar transport department plans to begin the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state from June, focusing on locations along national and state highways as well as public utility areas.
According to officials, charging stations will be set up near dhabas, hotels, petrol pumps and other public or vacant government land to strengthen EV infrastructure in the state.
Companies asked to submit location proposals
The department has sought lists of proposed sites from automobile manufacturers, petroleum companies and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) interested in setting up charging stations.
Officials said companies have been asked to submit their proposals before June 7. The government is expected to begin signing memorandums of understanding (MoUs) after the submission process is completed.
Electric bus rollout planned
The initiative comes ahead of the planned induction of electric buses into Bihar’s public transport network.
According to the transport department, the central government is expected to provide around 400 electric buses to the state. More than 100 of these buses are likely to begin operations from June.
Officials said the expansion of charging infrastructure is aimed at ensuring operational readiness for the new fleet and improving environmentally sustainable public transport systems.
