Patna: The Bihar government has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for providing subsidies on the purchase of electric vehicles (EVs), setting May 15, 2026, as the starting date for eligibility under the scheme.
According to the notification, only electric vehicles purchased and registered between May 15, 2026, and March 31, 2027, will qualify for incentives under the state scheme.
Online Applications Mandatory
The state government said applicants must apply online through the official portal. The scheme will operate on a “First Come, First Served” basis, with incentives granted subject to eligibility and availability.
Applicants can submit their applications through the official website: Bihar EV Subsidy Portal
Officials said applicants who have already received subsidies for electric vehicles under any other government scheme will not be eligible for benefits under the current programme.
Special Provision For SC And ST Applicants
The SOP states that applicants belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories must upload valid caste certificates while submitting their applications online.
The government said the provision has been included to ensure proper verification and processing of category-based claims under the scheme.
Timeline For Disposal Of Applications
The state government has directed officials to process and dispose of all applications within 15 working days.
According to the SOP, the instruction has been issued to prevent delays in disbursal and ensure eligible beneficiaries receive incentive amounts within a fixed timeframe.
The scheme forms part of Bihar’s broader push to encourage the adoption of electric mobility and reduce dependence on conventional fuel-based vehicles.
